rela{\c{c}}{\~o}es solo-relevo pela avalia{\c{c}}{\~a}o
conjunta de dados geomorfom{\'e}tricos e mapas publicados de
solos. Para tal, foram utilizados dados de altitude da miss{\~a}o
SRTM (Shuttle Radar Topography Mission), vari{\'a}veis
geomorfom{\'e}tricas locais do banco de dados topogr{\'a}ficos
TOPODATA e vari{\'a}veis geomorfom{\'e}tricas regionais,
extra{\'{\i}}das com algoritmos desenvolvidos no escopo desta
pesquisa. Como fonte de dados de solos se utilizou o Levantamento
Pedol{\'o}gico Semidetalhado 1:100.000 da Quadr{\'{\i}}cula de
S{\~a}o Carlos, Estado de S{\~a}o Paulo, junto com o respectivo
memorial descritivo. A abordagem metodol{\'o}gica esteve baseada
no processo de descobrimento de conhecimento a partir de mapas,
pela utiliza{\c{c}}{\~a}o de ferramentas de Sistemas de
Informa{\c{c}}{\~a}o Geogr{\'a}fica e t{\'e}cnicas de
interpreta{\c{c}}{\~a}o de imagens. Entre os principais
resultados deste trabalho est{\~a}o, al{\'e}m dos algoritmos de
an{\'a}lise regional de dados SRTM, o banco de dados
geomorfom{\'e}tricos de car{\'a}ter regional da {\'a}rea de
estudo, a caracteriza{\c{c}}{\~a}o geomorfom{\'e}trica dos
solos de S{\~a}o Carlos e uma indica{\c{c}}{\~a}o das
vari{\'a}veis geomorfom{\'e}tricas potencialmente {\'u}teis
para a separa{\c{c}}{\~a}o de unidades de mapeamento destes
solos, at{\'e} o n{\'{\i}}vel de grandes grupos. Entre as
conclus{\~o}es deste estudo consta que: as classes das
vari{\'a}veis geomorfom{\'e}tricas, cada uma a seu modo,
indicaram de dois a tr{\^e}s conjuntos de classes de solos; as
classes de solo da {\'a}rea de estudo, nos n{\'{\i}}veis
categ{\'o}ricos ordens e subordens, foram diferenciadas entre si
por pelo menos uma vari{\'a}vel geomorfom{\'e}trica; no
n{\'{\i}}vel de grandes grupos algumas unidades taxon{\^o}micas
se mostraram n{\~a}o separ{\'a}veis. A pesquisa mostrou que
{\'e} poss{\'{\i}}vel avaliar as rela{\c{c}}{\~o}es
solo-relevo na escala 1:100.000 pela integra{\c{c}}{\~a}o do
processo de descobrimento de conhecimento, recursos de
geoprocessamento e modelagem de dados SRTM. ABSTRACT: This work
aimed at to retrieve knowledge on the soil-relief relations
through the evaluation of geomorphometric data and published soil
maps. This was accomplished with SRTM data (Shuttle Radar
Topography Mission), the local geomorphometric data base TOPODATA,
and geomorphometric regional (non-local) variables, extracted
through algorithms developed within this research. The 1:100,000
soil survey map of S{\~a}o Carlos, S{\~a}o Paulo State, was used
as the soil data source, together with its documentation. The
methodological approach was based on the knowledge discovery
process from maps, on the use of tools of Geographical Information
Systems and imaging interpretation techniques. The main results of
this work included algorithms for regional analysis of SRTM, the
resulting regional geomorphometric data base of S{\~a}o Carlos,
the geomorphometric description of the occurring soils and an
indication of the geomorphometric variables potentially useful to
separate their mapping units. Among the conclusions, it was found
that the geomorphometric classes were related to two or three soil
classes, according to the considered variable, at different
mapping levels; the occurring soil classes at the more general
level of classification, were distinguished by at least one
geomorphometric variable; at the simples mapping units level, some
taxonomic units were not separable. This research showed the
evaluation of soil-relief relations at 1:100,000 scale to be
possible through the integration of knowledge discovering approach
with geoprocessing resources and SRTM data modeling.",
